Kellie Harper Out At Tennessee
Kellie Harper is out of a job…this after she was let go by the University of Tennessee on Monday. Harper led the Lady Vols this year to a 20-13 overall record and a 10-6 in the SEC. The Lady Vols lost to No. 1 South Carolina with a last second shot in the SEC Tournament. The Lady Vols then lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to NC State. Harper had a 108-52 record in her five years as Tennessee’s head coach. This after she spent her playing career as a Lady Vol being part of a 39-0 team in 1998. As head coach, she was never able to return the Tennessee Lady Vols to their past glory they enjoyed under Pat Summitt.
Athletic Director Danny White says he decided after much thought that a change needed to be made in the head coaching spot of the women’s basketball program. He thanks Kellie Harper for all she had dome for the Vols over the years. A nationwide search is now underway for a new head coach for the Lady Vols. White says he will not be making anymore comments on the situation until they announce a new head coach. Kellie Harper will be owed over $2 million by the university since she was fired without cause.
Some names being mentioned as a replacement, USC Coach Lindsey Gottlieb, Louisville coach Jeff Walz and Notre Dame coach Niele Ivey.
