Kidnapping Claim Turns Into Public Intoxication Charges

Cocke County Sheriff’s deputies were called by the Newport Police department to Wal-Mart on Cosby Hwy Wednesday morning. A man was claiming that his wife had been kidnapped. 41 year old Craig Shepherd told a deputy that his brother, Andy, had kidnaped his wife. However, Craig Shepherd then began to say strange things like claiming to be Jesus and that “the war” had stopped because of his actions.

Shepherd finally admitted to deputies that he had taken “bath salts” and methamphetamine. Shepherd refused medical attention by EMS, so he was taken to the Cocke County jail charged with Public Intoxication.
