Lane Closures To Resume On Newfound Gap Road
Officials with the Great Smoky Mountains National park announced on Thursday that starting on Monday August 16th…weekday lane closures of Newfound Gap Road through the park will resume. Crews are working on repaving an 8 mile section of the highway from the Chimneys Picnic area to Newfound Gap at the Tennessee/North Carolina border. Lan closures may occur starting at 7am on Mondays but will end at noon on Fridays. There are no lane closures permitted during the weekend and on holidays…nor will there be lane closures during the month of October…the busiest month of the year for the park. Work is expected to wrap up on that re-paving project sometime in November. Until then you can expect a few delays when driving through the park on Newfound Gap Road during the week.
