Man Arrested For Aggravated Assault

The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated an incident that happened on West Hwy 25/70 Tuesday evening. A state trooper spotted a Pontiac being chased y a Chevrolet truck. The trooper was able to get both vehicles to pull over at the 95 Mart on Hwy 25E. Coly Shelton, the driver of the Pontiac stated that he had met Brandon Clevenger, the driver of the pickup at Love’s Travel Center. Shelton stated that Clevenger attempted to assault him after Shelton did not have money he owed Clevenger. Shelton stated he got in his car and fled from the Love’s Travel Center, but that Clevenger followed him. When the two vehicles were in front of Clayton Homes…Shelton claimed that Clevenger pulled out a gun and shot at Shelton’s vehicle. Newport police, who assisted, spotted what appeared to be a bullet hole in the passenger side door of the Pontiac. A Glock 43 handgun was found in the floorboard of Clevenger’s truck. He told police that Shelton asked him for gas money at Love’s, which started the argument. He also claimed that Shelton fired at him. No gun was found on Shelton or in his vehicle. Clevenger was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
