Man Arrested For Fighting With Police Officers
A man found himself in jail Monday after fighting with police officers. 39 year old Joshua Rowland was the passenger in a vehicle that had been pulled over for possible DUI. The vehicle, driven by 68 year old Jeffrey Bewley, had left an area of Newport known for drug activity and was pulled over at Five Rivers Plaza. During the traffic stop, Rowland became disruptive and was interfering with the traffic stop. Rowland finally had to be placed in the patrol car and was transported to the Cocke County Courthouse, where he refused to exit the vehicle. Officers had to physically remove Rowland from the patrol car. Once inside the jail, Rowland still being combative, attempted to spit on one of the officers. Rowland then had to be placed into a restraint chair. Both Rowland and Bewley smelled of alcohol, which was found inside the vehicle. Rowland is being charged with Resisting Arrest and Assault On A First Responder. Bewley is charged with DUI and also Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence. A loaded .25 caliber pistol was found in Bewley’s front pocket.
