Man Arrested For Impersonating A Police Officer
A man was arrested last week in Morristown for impersonating a police officer. Actual officers were dispatched earlier this week to an apartment complex on Sherwood Drive about a possible hostage situation. A man claimed to be a Lieutenant with the Hamblen County Sheriff’s office and told Morristown offices that a man had his girlfriend in an apartment and was holding a gun to her head. Officers checked that apartment and neighboring apartments and found nothing out of the ordinary. Hamblen County Sheriff Chad Mullins arrived on scene and told Morristown police he did not know the man claiming to be from his office. That man was identified as 47 year old Mark Griffith and police learned he had been knocking on apartment doors prior to officer’s arrival. Griffith, who was found to be wanted in Grainger county, was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and filing a false report in addition to impersonating a police officer.
