Man Assaults Police Officer During Arrest

A Newport man was arrested Sunday and has been charged with assaulting a police officer. Police were called to a home in Newport about 34 year opld Christoher McFalkls being in the home intoxicated and being verbally and physically abusive to his girlfriend. An officer found McFalls lying on the kitchen floor, but he got up and tried to run away when the officer tried to take him intop custody. McFalls then became combative with the officer, hitting him in the face and cutting the officer’s right elbow. McFalls was finally detained and is now charged with domestic assault, assault on a first responder and resisting arrest.
