Man Injured In Accident
A man was injured early Thursday morning in an accident that happened at the Newport Post Office. According to police, 50 year old Larry May of Knoxville was driving a Ryder truck around 2:10 am and was pulling into the back of the post office, but stopped and got out of his truck to open the gate. The Ryder truck was partially in the right hand lane of travel of Southbound Cosby Hwy. 64 year old Jack Messer of Cosby did not see the Ryder truck and hit the rear of the Ryder truck. The impact moved the Ryder truck forward, pinning Larry May in between the truck and the post office gate. May was seriously injured and was transported via ambulance to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. Mr. Messer was not injured in that crash.
