Man runs Construction Zone Red Light Evading Arrest
A 31 year old man was arrested in Newport after he tried to evade police. William Sanderlin, who was wanted on a violation of probation warrant, was spotted driving on Hwy 25E. Police attempted to pull him over, but Sanderlin decided to flee at speeds up to 90mph, including running the red light at the construction zone on 25E. Several vehicles had to swerve out of the way to keep from being struck by Sanderlin who then used the shoulder of the roadway to pass vehicles. He then turned onto Rankin Hill Road, did a U-Turn, and got back on Hwy 25E heading back towards Newport. He again used the shoulder of the road to evade traffic while running the light at the construction zone. About a half mile after exiting the construction zone, Sanderlin pulled over and surrendered.
Two passengers were in that vehicle. They told police they were begging Sanderlin to pull over and let them out. Sanderlin says that he pulled over for them. Those two passengers were released and Sanderlin was transported to the Cocke County jail where he now faces charges of Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving and Evading Arrest.
