Megan Boswell’s Attorney Asks To Be Removed
The attorney for Megan Boswell, the woman in Sullivan County who is accused of killing her 15 month old daughter, now wants out as her attorney. Brad Sproles, Boswell’s public-appointed defense attorney, filed a motion on Wednesday claiming that the attorney-client relationship has deteriorated to the point that he is unable to effectively and zealously represent Boswell. Sproles said in his motion that the attorney-client relationship is unsalvageable, so he is requesting she now be assigned new counsel. Sproles is requesting to stay on the case temporarily in a pro bono status to help Boswell’s new attorney with the transfer and organization of case materials.
Boswell is charged with felony murder in the case of her 15 month old daughter, whose body was found on family property in March 2020. Last month in a court appearance, Boswell requested a new attorney, but the judge denied that request.
A hearing concerning Sproles’ motion is set for Friday morning. Boswell’s trial is set to begin in February, but if new counsel has to be assigned, it could push that trial date back to a later date.
