More Delays On Interstate 40 This Weekend

Get ready for more delays on Interstate 40 this weekend. This affects those traveling on I-40 at the I-81 interchange. This weekend, crews will once again be working on I-40 east at the split. Crews are doing repair work to the bridge leading onto I-81 north. (5/16) and continuing throughout the weekend.

Last weekend, this caused a traffic nightmare for those heading to Cocke County from Knoxville and Dandridge. Traffic was backed up at times on I-40 east from the I-81 split to near exit 415, a distance of six miles. The backup on I-40 led to increased traffic in the city of Dandridge as motorists tried to get around the backup on the interstate by taking Hwy 25-50 or Hwy 92 into Dandridge. At times, traffic was slowed to a crawl on Highway 92 from near the interstate all the way to downtown Dandridge.

TDOT says the work on I-40 east should be completed by no later than 6am Monday morning (5/19).
