Morristown Hamblen Humane Society Dealing With Fatal Cat Disease
The Morristown Hamblen Humane Society is dealing with a deadly disease that kills felines. Multiple kittens tested positive for the virus called feline panleukopenia and it is highly contagious. The disease is often fatal but completely preventable with vaccines. The shelter is currently not accepting any cats or kittens for the next 14 days to quarantine and monitor the outbreak and try to save as many cats and kittens as they can. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, symptoms of feline panleukopenia include loss of appetite, high fever, lethargy, vomiting, severe diarrhea, nasal discharge and dehydration. Dogs cannot get the disease so the center is still accepting dogs.
