Motorcyclist Charged With Reckless Driving

A motorcycle struck a steel pole and two mailboxes on route 73 in Cocke County over the weekend injuring the driver. This was in the vicinity of Old Edwina Road. Witnesses told Cocke County deputies that they watched the motorcyclist pass two vehicles on a curve in a no passing zone. The driver, 42 year old Shawn Martin of Cosby smelled of alcohol. Field sobriety tests could not be done due to Martin’s injuries. He was transported to the Newport Medical Center where he was later released. At that time he was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
