Multiple Agencies Respond To CCHS After Bomb Threat
Students and staff at Cocke County High School had to be evacuated from the school this morning, due to a bomb threat. According to the Cocke County Sheriff’s office, the high school was advised of a threat to the school campus around 8am this morning. The threat was evaluated by administrators and local law enforcement, who decided that the evacuation of students and staff from the building was in the best interest of safety. The Cocke County Sheriffs Office, Cocke County Fire, Newport City Police, Newport City Fire, Cocke County Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the K-9 Bomb units from Greene County and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Morristown Police Department conducted a thorough inspection of the entire Cocke County High School campus.
After a sweep of the school was conducted52, no credible threat was found. Some information on social media stated that a firearm was found in the school, but the sheriff’s office says that information is false. No firearm was found in the school during their search. All staff and students were cleared to go back into the school and to resume their normal schedules for the day.
