NASCAR’s Greg Biffle Killed In Plane Crash
A popular NASCAR driver has died. Sources in North Carolina confirmed around 2:30pm this afternoon that NASCAR’s Greg Biffle and members of his family were killed in a plane crash at approximately 10:15 a.m. this morning at the Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. The Iredell County Sheriff’s office confirmed that there were fatalities, but according to television station WCNC in Charlotte, Garrett Mitchell, whose internet personality is Cleetus McFarland, has confirmed that Biffle was on the plane that crashed. Mitchell says that Biffle, his wife, Cristina and his two children, were on the plane that went down this morning. Mitchell said the family was flying down to Florida to visit him today.
Also on the plane was Craig Wadsworth, who drove the motor home for NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace for six years. According to officials with Statesville Regional Airport, the plane was owned by Greg Biffle and had taken off from the airport headed for Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. Shortly after takeoff, the plane was attempting to return to the airport, but crashed on the runway while attempting to land. The plane then burst into a ball of fire. Golfers at a nearby course stated that the plane went over them at a very low altitude just before it crashed.
Greg Biffle had been a hero to many in Western North Carolina as he helicoptered supplies into areas devastated by Hurricane Helene that could not be accessed by land vehicles. The NTSB is expected to hold a press conference on the plane crash sometime on Friday.
