New Stadium For Tennessee Titans Passes First Reading
While the Tennessee Smokies Stadium in Knoxville is moving ahead, the proposal for a new enclosed stadium for the Tennessee Titans in Nashville took a big step forward last night in the Music City. The Nashville Metro Council approved the financing plan for the $2.1 billion stadium on the first reading. A second reading is scheduled for April 4th. The plan will then have to pass through a third reading before the plan is sent to Mayor John Cooper for his signature. Cooper, who came up with the plan with the Titans says that the stadium funding proposal will relieve the existing enormous unfunded financial burden on the city of Nashville who is tasked with keeping the current home of the Titans, Nissan Stadium up to current standards. Nissan Stadium is in need of repairs and upgrades that would cost around a billion dollars to complete making the investment into a new stadium a better deal for the city in the mayor’s eyes.
