Newport City Schools Rank High In DOE Ratings
Newport City Schools are getting some recognition from the state. The Tennessee Department of Education has come out with their ratings for school districts for the 2021-22 school year. The DOE lists school systems that are in need of improvment and those that are doing well by having categories of exemplary, advancing, satisfactory and in need of improvement.
Newport City Schools rank in the exemplary category. Greene County and Greeneville city schools are also in the exemplary category. Among the area school districts that are in need of improvement are Sevier County and Claiborne County. Cocke County schools ranked in the satisfactory category as well as Hamblen County. Jefferson County was among the school districts that are in the advancing category…noting their improvement. Districts are rated based on their performance across six performance indicators including Grade Band Success Rates, rates at which students are Chronically Out of School, performance on the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA), and Graduation rates.
