Newport Man Set For Trial In Greeneville May 23rd
A Newport man will be going on trial in federal court in Greeneville in May, facing charges of child pornography. 26 year old Jarod Stokely was indicted last month by a federal grand jury on five charges that were in a sealed indictment. Stokely was taken into custody by US Marshals in Russell County, Virginia back in mid-January. According to the indictment, Stokely is charged with enticing or persuading an underage minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct with the purpose of distributing that material. He is also charged with possessing child pornography with that child being under the age of 12. Stokely pled not guilty to the charges against him when he was arraigned. Last week, a competency hearing was held in federal court to go over a psychiatric exam of the defendant, the results of that exam are sealed. Stokely is set to go on trial at the federal courthouse in Greeneville on May 23rd. Until then, he is in the custody of US Marshals.
