Newport PD Accepting Applications

The Newport Police Department is looking for its next fficer. Applications are now being accepted for the position of police officer. Applicants must be: 21 years of age, and provide copies of a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid TN Driver’s License, a copy of discharge if military veteran and and provide a copy of your birth certificate. If P.O.S.T. Certified the applicant should provide a copy of certification. The police department says P.O.S.T. certification is a plus. Incomplete application packets will be disqualified from consideration.

Application packets must be picked up in person at Newport Police Department at 330 E. Main Street or online at the City of Newport’s website. Completed packets must be turned in at the Newport Police Department by no later than 4:30 pm on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

There is also a sign-on bonus being offered.

*TN POST Certified Officer $10,000

In order to be eligible, you can NOT be a current law enforcement employee or have been employed as a law enforcement officer for at least 1 year. Incremental pay will begin on your 6-month anniversary date. You must remain employed as a NPD officer for at least 3 years to earn the entire $10,000.

*Non-Certified Applicants $8,000

Non-certified applicants who are eligible will receive $8,000. Incremental pay will begin on your 12-month anniversary date. You must remain employed as a NPD officer for at least 3 years to earn the entire $8,000.
