Newport PD Warns Of New Scam

The Newport Police Department reminds you that even though you may have the holiday off, scammers do not take a holiday off. The police department says that they have been made aware of a new scam where scammers are soliciting rental agreements on homes that are on the market for sale. In other words, the scammers find homes that are listed for sale, then they list that home for rent, hoping you will pay to rent a house that does not belong to them. The scammers ask for deposit money to be sent electronically instead of in person. The police department says that several thousand dollars have been lost in Cocke County by victims falling for this scam. Remember, be vigilant…do your research…and the police department says more importantly…just use some common sense.
