Newport Utility Board Meets

Newport Utility board met on Monday and discussed several topics. The completion of the Grit King Project at the wastewater plant was announced…that project coming in under budget at just over a million dollars. Grit King is an advanced grit management system that removes fine grit to protect downstream processes at wastewater treatment plants. It was also announced that Newport Utilities had received an Economic & Community Development Grant of $80,000 which will be used to conduct engineering design for a Wastewater line extension to Cosby.

Financially all lines of business within the utility…electric, water, wastewater and broadband service…all showed increased revenue for the year so far…however, the utility stated that will change for wastewater operations…they are predicted to level off and start to slow once ConAgra closes. The next meeting of the Newport Utility Board will be on Tuesday, October 26th at 10:30.
