Newport Utility Changes Coming

If you are currently getting your broadband service thru Newport Utilities’ NU Connect service, your plan will soon e changing. You’ll e getting faster speeds for the same price or possible even less. Thursday at the Newport Utility Board meeting, the board approved a new rate and service structure. Currently their three plans are 100ms service for $44.95 a month…which will be going to 500ms service with the price staying the same at $44.95 a month. The current 250ms plan for $64.95 a month will be going away. that’s because the 250mg speed is being upped to 1gbs speed for the same price of $64.95 a month. NU Connect will also introduce a basic plan which is 30 mbs for $30. The utility says the changes are being made to make NU Connect more competitive with its competition. No word on when the plan changes will be taking place.

However, your electric ill will be going up a little starting in January. That is due to the TVA’s retransmission fees that get passed along to the customers. The fee is going up tp $2.19 a month meaning for the entire year, you will see an increase in your power ill of just under $30 due to that fee.
