NSF To Close Rocky Top Road For Repairs
The National Forest Service is going to be closing a road in the Cherokee National Forest next month. NFSR 402, known locally as Rocky Top Road, was heavily damaged in storms and is in need of repair. Rocky Top Road will be closed from mile 2.22 to 5.72. The closure will begin in June and remain in place until repairs are complete.
Contractors plan to remove damaged culverts and resurface that road. Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads funds will be used to make the repairs to Rocky Top Road. The ERFO Program was established to assist federal agencies with the repair or reconstruction of federally owned roads that are open to public travel, and are found to have suffered serious damage by a natural disaster over a wide area or by a catastrophic failure.
