Over $4000 Damage Done To Semi Truck In Theft
Newport police responded Tuesday to the report of an unusual item being stolen. Robert Thacker who owns Myers Recycling told police that sometime between Thursday the 23rd and Tuesday, someone had stolen the Electronic Control Unit from a 2008 Freightliner semi that was parked in the parking lot. Thacker stated that when he went to move the semi Tuesday afternoon it would not start, so he called Malone’s Towing. They discovered the ECU had been cut from the semi leaving the cut wires. Damage to the semi is estimated to be between $4,000 and $5,000. A camera system was in place and Thacker stated he would review the 6 days of video to try and get police a look at the suspect. Thacker told police the ECU will have matching VIN numbers to the Semi.
