Pedestrian Hit

Late Thursday night a pedestrian was hit on Cosby Hwy in front of the Waffle House. John Norris of Newport stated he was driving a 2011 Ford Edge northbound in the inner lane on Cosby Hwy at approx. 11:47pm Thursday when 81 year old Frederick Fisher of Newport walked out in front of him. Norris stated that it was too late when he saw Fisher in the roadway to stop. A witness who was also traveling northbound in the outer lane slightly behind Norris’ vehicle told police that Fisher walked out into the highway without looking for traffic…confirming Norris’ story. Frederick Fisher was treated at the scene then transported to the Newport Medical Center where he was then airlifted to the UT medical center in Knoxville. His condition is not known at this time. Norris was not cited for any violation.
