Pedestrian Struck By Car In Newport
Charges are pending against a driver that struck a pedestrian in Newport on Thursday. The incident happened around 4pm on Senior Way. 35 year old Samuel Pierce of Newport told police that he was driving a Dodge Caravan on Senior Way, when he got distracted by something hitting his face. When he looked back up, 60 year old Michael Marshall of Harrisburg, PA was crossing the road in front of him, and he could not stop. Mr. Marshall was attended to by Newport firefighters and then airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville with suspected serious injuries. Samuel Pierce consented to field sobriety tests which he passed. He also consented to a blood draw. Charges could be filed pending those results.
