Police Investigate Apple Air Tag Placed On Car
Police in Newport are investigating after an unknown male subject placed an Apple Air Tag under a woman’s car. The victim, 19 year old Ava Hoffman told police that a co-worker alerted her late Wednesday morning that a man was placing something under her car. When Hoffman approached the suspect, he closed his laptop and became nervous while claiming he was scanning her car for a “5G signal”. The man then got into a dark gray or dark purple 2009 Toyota Scion and left the parking lot of the Best Western motel on Cosby Hwy. The suspect is descried as a white male with curly red or blonde hair wearing a suit. Hoffman told police that she looked under her car when the man left and found the Apple Air Tag. Apple Air Tags are a tracking device that are normally used for keeping track of items like backpacks or keys. Police took the air tag into their possession, and wrapped it in aluminum foil which interferes with signals coming in and out of the device.
