Police Investigate Threatening Text Messages
A man flagged Newport police down Sunday afternoon saying he had received text messages threatening his life. The 60 year old victim showed police the messages sent from a person claiming to be “Mr. John” from the FBI and texted a picture of a badge. Further text messages showed a picture of a handgun and that the victim’s life had ben paid for and he needed to “cooperate” if he wanted to keep his life. The number the text message came from belonged to 51 year old Johnny Oliver who told police that was his number, but he had no record of any text messages like that on his phone. Police have no idea who actually sent the threatening text messages.
