Rain Helps Battle Wildfire Across State Line

The rain helping firefighting efforts in Haywood County NC. Crews are continuing to battle a wildfire that is just south of the Tennessee state line in the Pigeon River Gorge area. The smoke can be seen along I-40. The US Forest Service says that the fire was only 25% contained before the rains came Tuesday evening. So far that fire has consumed about 500 acres and is spreading towards the Harmon Den area. Crews say there are several cabins that are being assessed for fire risk and protection needs.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
