Remnants Of Ian Expected To Bring Heavy Rain For The Weekend
Hurricane Ian is making its way towards the Florida Gulf Coast. At this point, Ian is expected to make landfall later today around Port Charlotte, Florida…which is between Ft. Myers and Sarasota as a category 4 then quickly weaken. That is quite a bit south of Tampa where Ian was originally expected to land. That means that the Tampa area will be spared the largest of the storm surge. Ian is expected to cross over Florida and drop to a category 1 hurricane. The storm will then cross into the Atlantic briefly before making another landfall in South Carolina. Ian will then head in a northeasterly direction with the center of circulation as a tropical depression crossing over us by late Saturday. We can expect winds to start picking up later today. Rains will not arrive till late Friday night. Saturday is going to be a rainy chilly day. Rain totals for us should average around 2 inches. That will come over about a 48 hour period from Friday night to early Monday morning.
