Rocky Top celebration…Saban Retires
They are celebrating across the Southeastern Conference this morning. The reason…Alabama head coach Nich Saban announced on Wednesday that he is officially retiring after winning seven national championships…six of those with Alabama, the other with LSU. Saban began his coaching career 50 years ago in 1973 with his alma mater Kent State. Saban coached at numerous schools including Michigan State before taking the job with LSU in 2000. After five season there, he made the leap to the NFL with the Miami Dolphins, but found the NFL coaching life was much different that college and returned to the college ranks in 2007 as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide…where for the next 16 years he would torment the University of Tennessee.
Saban leaves his coaching career sitting in the top 5 of the most wins…112 wins behind Joe Paterno for number one. Nick Saban retiring at the age of 72.
