Running Red Light Lands Man In Jail
A run through a red light caused a man to find himself in jail. 53 year old Blaine Williams was pulled over late Tuesday night by Newport police on Rhea Street. Williams was found to have a warrant out of Jefferson County and prior offenses of driving on a revoked license and DUI in Cocke County. When an officer asked Williams to exit his car, Williams dropped the car in drive and sped away, leaving his lights off to try to lose police. Officers pursued Williams from onto Hwy 25E then onto Industrial Drive at speeds of 80 mph. On Industrial Drive, Williams hit a deer and had to stop his vehicle. His attempt to flee on foot was short lived and he was apprehended. Police found around 1.8 grams of methamphetamine in Williams pants pocket. He has been charged with manufacture, sale, delivery or possession of meth along with Reckless Driving and Evading Arrest. He is being held in the Jefferson County Detention Center.
