Semi Overturns On I-40 East; Driver Killed
Interstate 40 was closed for a time Tuesday morning after a tractor trailer overturned on I-40 east just west of the 435 exit. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a tractor trailer driver was heading east on I-40 around 8:15am when he went off the road just past the 435 exit, hit the cable barrier and then overturned. The driver was pulling a flatbed trailer full of lumber when it crashed. Both lanes of eastbound I-40 were closed for a short time. One lane was reopened to traffic by late morning and both lanes were finally reopened by mid-afternoon. According to the report by the highway patrol, the 65 year old driver of the tractor trailer was killed in that accident. According to the THP report, the man was not wearing his seatbelt.
