Sevier Co Animal Care Center Forced To Close From Parvo
The Sevier Animal Care Center has been forced to close after a puppy at the center was diagnosed with the Parvo virus. That is a highly contagious viral infection that affects dogs and can be deadly. The puppy found infected had been in quarantine already due to an upper respiratory infection, but out of caution, the center closed so employees can clean and disinfect the facility. Anyone needing to go to that facility this week, will need to call in advance.
If you are not familiar with the Parvo virus, the Sevier County Animal Care Center posted this on their Facebook page:
“So what is parvo? In a nutshell, it is an incurable virus that attacks the digestive system of canines only. Unfortunately, it is highly contagious and hardy-the germs cannot be killed by simple cleaners. Most shelters, vet clinics, and boarding facilities(including us) utilize special sanitizers that are made to kill the virus in the environment. Remember to always have your pets vaccinated, especially if they are young and/or visit a lot of high traffic dog areas. ✳️Edited to add: if your personal pet contracts Parvovirus, please consult with your veterinarian immediately. Some can survive this virus if the symptoms(especially dehydration) are treated rapidly.”
