Sevierville PD Hosting Citizens Police Academy
If you have ever wanted to go into law enforcement, but would like to get a taste of what its like first…the Sevierville Police Department has the answer for you. The Sevierville PD is has announced open registration for their annual Citizens Police Academy this fall. The purpose of the academy is to provide an opportunity for adult residents to learn about basic police work and to get to know the officers protecting and serving the community. A similar program was done for those under 18 back in the spring.
Curriculum for the program consists of 27-hours of classroom and field instruction. Topics will include: Patrol Methods, Investigations, Vehicle Stops, Defense Techniques, D.U.I. Interdiction, Taser usage, Community Policing Program, and Introduction to Police Firearms. The academy meets 6:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings from September 22 – November 17. The program is free and open to all qualified applicants. You must be 18 years of age and pass a thorough background check. Applications are available at the Sevierville Police Department and all forms need to be turned in by 5 p.m. on Monday, September 16.
