Shoplifter Arrested At Food City East

Police were called over the weekend to Food City East in Newport about a shoplifter. Loss prevention stated they had observed 47 year old Daphne Russell shoplift from the store before but had not caught her. This time, they did. Russell was caught putting grocery items in her personal bag, then walked past the checkout registers with those items. She was stopped before she could exit the store. Police found in her bag, meat, including steaks, plus other food items and numerous personal care products. Police were familiar with Russell from prior shoplifting at Wal-Mart. Russell told police that she shoplifted the items at Food City because money had run out on her food stamps card. She was charged with theft under $1,000.
