Son Of Late Sevier County Deputy Commits To Play College Football
In a time of sadness, there was something to celebrate. Tonight is the funeral for Sgt. Aaron Whaley of the Sevier County Sheriff’s office who died Saturday after he suffered a stroke at home last week. But, yesterday afternoon the Whaley family and members of the Sevier County community had something to celebrate. Sgt. Whaley’s son, Whittman Whaley is a senior at Gatlinburg-Pittman high school and was a star on the GP football team that just missed going to the state championship this year. Whaley played both receiver and linebacker for the Highlanders. Wednesday, Whittman Whaley officially committed to play football at Wake Forest where he was recruited to play linebacker. Whittman Whaley says he knows his dad is proud of him.
One of Whaley’s teammates, Carlos Orr committed to playing for Illinois. He was a wide receiver and defensive back for Gatlinburg Pittman.
The funeral for Sgt. Aaron Whaley is this evening. He will be laid to rest on Friday morning. Yesterday at noon, the bell above the Sevier County courthouse tolled for five minutes in tribute to Sgt. Whaley.
