South Carolina Man Killed In I-40 Crash
A South Carolina man was killed in Cocke County over the weekend after he drove off the side of the interstate. According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 43 year old Patrick Donnelly was traveling eastbound on I-40 Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm when for unknown reasons, his Nissan Pathfinder went off the left side of the interstate near mile marker 433. The vehicle traveled for a short distance into the median, then struck the embankment. The vehicle then fell to New Cave Church Road below the interstate. Donnelly’s vehicle coming to rest on the guardrail. He was airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville because of his injuries. He passed away Sunday afternoon because of the injuries sustained in that crash.
According to his family, Donnelly was traveling back to his family in South Carolina after working a job in Seymour. The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s report says that Donnelly was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
