Stolen Tow Truck Leads To Multiple Charges
An unusual vehicle pursuit Saturday night in Cocke County. Patrol cars from both Newport City and Cocke County were involved in the pursuit of a stolen tow truck. Officers were advised that the tow truck was from Hartford Towing and that the owner of Hartford Towing was pursuing the suspect, 38 year old Marty Blake Pack. The pursuit was on I-40 and went westbound past exit 435, but at exit 432, Pack got off and turned back east on I-40 with Newport officers in pursuit. Cocke County deputies jinxed in the pursuit on the interstate which finally ended when Pack pulled over near mile marker 438.
Sonny Leatherwood, the owner of Hartford Towing, told officers that he had camera footage of Pack breaking into several vehicles on his property and stealing around $240 in cash out of those vehicles before stealing the tow truck. Leatherwood says that Pack has actually stolen several of the vehicles and driving them off the property before taking the tow truck. Pack is charged with six counts of theft over $1,000.
Pack is also facing a charge of theft after it was discovered he had stolen a motorcycle as well, this belonging to Justin Stokely of Del Rio. Stokely told a sheriff’s deputy that he had not realized the $34,000 Kawasaki KRX 1,000 had been stolen until notified by Deputy Gavin Colley that the motorcycle was found abandoned along Hartford Road Saturday morning. Pack admitted to stealing the motorcycle and leaving it on the side of the road when it ran out of gas.
