Stolen Vehicle Leads Deputies And Police On Chase
A man driving a stolen vehicle led Cocke County deputies and Newport police on a high speed chase through the county Saturday night. The sheriff’s office had been notified that a stolen lack Subaru Outback was driving up the Foothills Parkway towards Interstate 40. That vehicle entered I-40 at exit 443 and the sheriff’s office then gave chase. The stolen Subaru heading up I-40 at speeds of up to 90mph weaving in and out of traffic. The suspect then exited at Cosby Hwy heading northbound to Broadway where they turned and headed west. The suspect continued to drive at a high rate of speed turning on to US 25E and heading towards White Pine. The suspect ran the construction red light on Hwy 25E driving at nearly 90mph, then crossed the bridge over Douglas Lake into Jefferson County. That is where the sheriff’s deputy was instructed to discontinue his pursuit. However, a Newport officer continued the pursuit into Jefferson County. The suspect turned down Leadvale Road where he abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle was returned to the owner, but the suspect is still unidentified and is still on the loose.
