TBI Investigating Inmate Death In Hamblen County

The TBI is now investigating after the death of an inmate inside the Hamblen County jail last weekend. The TBI says at this point of their investigation, they do not suspect foul play in the death of 36 year old Mitchell Smith. He was found dead in his cell Saturday. Sheriff Chad Mullins says they believe Smith’s death was health related, but are awaiting autopsy results to verify that. Smith had been booked into the Hamblen County jail on December 16 on drug charges.
