TDOC Taking Inmate Mail Into The Digital Age
The Tennessee Department of Corrections is moving further into the 21st century.
The Department of Corrections will soon be transitioning from traditional physical mail to a new digitalized format at all TDOC facilities. Starting on November 3rd of this year, all mail sent to inmates will go to an off-site facility where it will be processed, scanned, and a digitized version will be transferred onto tablets provided by TDOC. According to TDOC, this new protocol will not only deliver mail to prisoners more quickly and reliably but also will improve security by reducing any contraband included in the physical mail.
The digital version will feature drawings and other allowed customization. Throughout their incarceration, offenders will have free access to their letters, which will be provided at no cost. Senders will even be able to track and monitor the progress on their mail and will be informed if a letter is returned. For additional information, you can check the Tennessee Department of Correction’s “offender mail” page for full details.
