TDOT Halting Short Term Lane Closures
In an effort to help you get over the river and through the woods to grandma’s house a little easier, TDOT is halting all short term lane closures over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Starting Wednesday at noon, till Monday morning, November 28th at 6am, short term lane closures on construction of Tennessee roads will cease. However, you may still encounter lane closures on long term construction projects.
One construction project to keep in mind is not in Tennessee, but in North Carolina. Lane closures will still be happening on Interstate 40 near mile marker 18 in North Carolina. NCDOT is working on replacing a bridge and have I-40 down to one lane in that area…both directions. That closure with holiday traffic is going to lead to some backups on I-40 if you are heading towards Asheville or Charlotte. TDOT is recommending a detour of I-81 to I-26 to get around that construction. According to TDOT that will add about 45 minutes to your drive time.
