TDOT Says Hwy 321 Construction Project Is Back On
If you drive from Parrottsville or Greeneville to Newport every day, get ready to be inconvenienced for the next six months. A project to close a part of US 321 that was postponed earlier this year, is now back on TDOT’s schedule. Starting next Tuesday, June 20th, TDOT will close Highway 321 from the intersection of State Route 160 and Old Greeneville Highway to just west of the intersection of St. Tide Hollow Road and Old Greeneville Highway. During this road construction, Old Greeneville Highway will be used as a temporary detour around the work zone. The detour is necessary to allow for the construction tie-in of existing US 321 (or state route 35) to the new US 321 Newport Bypass that is currently being built. Mark Nagi with TDOT says we can expect that detour to be in place until December of this year. However, that schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions. Nagi says motorists are advised to use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.
