Teen Injured In Shooting Near Morristown High School
Police in Morristown are investigating after a shooting happened near Morristown West High School Tuesday afternoon. According to a report from the Morristown Police Department, Morristown and officers and Hamblen County deputies responded to a shooting call on Sulphur Springs Rd. near the high school. One 17 year old teen had shot another and fled. Schools and childcare agencies in that area were placed into lockdown as a precaution. The 17 year old victim was transported to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. The condition of that male victim is not known. A joint effort from the Morristown and Hamblen County departments eventually captured the shooting suspect who was taken into custody without incident. A spokesperson for the Morristown Police Department says both the victim and the suspect were students of the Hamblen County School System, but the shooting did not occur on school property. This is an ongoing investigation so no further information is being released at this time.
