Tennessee Lawmaker Writing Joker’s Law For K9 Officers
We recently told you about the shooting of a K9 officer in Bradley County Tennessee near Chattanooga. That K9 officer, whose name is Joker is continuing to recover from being shot after chasing down juveniles involved in a stolen car ring. Tennessee state Representative Mark Hall of Cleveland says he is writing up a bill that will make shooting a K9 officer an automatic felony in the state of Tennessee. Hall stated that if the bill is passed, the legislation known as ‘Joker’s Law’ would be the most aggressive law in the country when it comes to assault on law enforcement K9s. Hall says his legislation would make injuring or killing a police canine a Class C felony in the state with a minimum sentence of 3 years in prison.
