Tennessee Moves Up Three Spots In Latest AP Poll
After a Saturday full of chaos in the SEC, some big changes in the AP top 25 poll. Tennessee totally dismantled UTEP in Knoxville on Saturday with a 56-0 wipeout. That victory moves the Vols up three spots to #7 in this week’s poll.
With Alabama getting smoked by OKlahoma and Ole Miss getting chomped by the Florida Gators, both the Tide and the Rebels fall out of the top 10, and possibly out of playoff contention. Oregon stayed at #1 even though they had the weekend off. Ohio State’s win over Indiana keeps them at #2. Texas stayed at #3, Penn State at #4 again this week. Notre Dame moves up to #5. Georgia moved up to #6 while the Vols sit at #7. Miami, SMU and Indiana fill out the top 10.
Alabama dropped down to #13 while Ole Miss tumbled to #15. South Carolina is at #16 and Texas A&M moves down to #20 with a loss to Auburn. Missouri is the other SEC team in the top 25 at #24.
With Alabama and Mississippi losing big, and Ohio State’s win over Indiana, Tennessee moves back into the playoff picture. The next playoff rankings will be released Tuesday night. Tennessee must win at Vanderbilt Saturday to have a shot at the playoffs. The chances for Tennessee to host a playoff game though are very small.
