Tennessee Titans Shock NFL With Major Signing
Free agency officially got underway in the NFL at 4 Wednesday afternoon. One hour into the new league year, the Tennessee Titans shocked the rest of the league by signing the top wide receiver on the market, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Calvin Ridley.
Ridley was Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s favorite target last year. As of Wednesday morning the main rumor was the Patriots and the Jaguars were vying for the star wideout. All signs pointed to him going back to Jacksonville. But at the last minute, Titans GM Ran Carthon swooped in and landed Calvin Ridley with a massive 4 year $92 million deal with $50 million guaranteed. This gives Titans QB Will Levis one of the best receivers in the league to throw to. In fact, Levis had stated a couple weeks ago that Calvin Ridley was on his wish list.
Not only do the Jaguars lose their star receiver, but because of the terms of the trade that brought Ridley to Jacksonville from Atlanta, the Jaguars have to send Atlanta a third round draft pick.
The way the trade was laid out, if the Jags had signed Ridley to an extension before the start of free agency, they would have to give Atlanta a second round pick. If they did not sign him till after free agency, or did not sign him at all, it would be a third round pick.
