Tennessee Vol Legend Now A Baseball Hall Of Famer
A Tennessee Volunteer legend is now going into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. Yesterday afternoon in Cooperstown, NY, major league baseball announced the 2024 inductees into the national baseball hall of fame and among the three names was former Volunteer Todd Helton.
He received votes on 79.7% of the ballots by the baseball writers association of America…75% is needed for induction. Helton, who was a dual sport athlete at Tennessee spent his entire 17 year career in major league baseball with the Colorado Rockies. He finished with a .316 average and holds the Rockies franchise records for games played (2,247), hits (2,519), runs (1,401), home runs (369), and RBI (1,406).
Helton was already in the National College Baseball Hall of Fame. His No. 3 was permanently retired by UT in 2008. Most Vol fans will remember that Toff Helton was once the quarterback for the Vols…he was replaced by a guy named Peyton Manning. Helton stated yesterday that he is open to Manning joining him in Cooperstown, New York, for his official inducted which comes later this year on July 21.
