Tennessee Vols Head To Detroit And Sweet 16
The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team is headed back to the Sweet 16 for the second year in a row. The Vols nailed late free throws Saturday night to take down coach Rick Barnes’ former team, the Texas Longhorns 62-58. The Vols were able to defeat Texas without guard Dalton Knecht scoring his average. He was the Vols leading scorer with 18 points, and Jonas Aidoo scored 11, but it was crucial free throws made when Texas put him at the line that made the difference. Aidoo only hit 62.5% of his free throws during the season, but nailed all four late to help secure the win.
Tennessee will now face number three seed Creighton in the Sweet 16 in Detroit. That game set for Friday night at 10pm. This is the Vols first time going to the Sweet 16 in back to back season since 2007-08.
Alabama is the only other SEC team to survive the first two rounds and advance to the Sweet 16. The Crimson Tide held off Grand Canyon last night 72-61. This is Alabama’s first back to back Sweet 16 appearances since the 1990-91 seasons.
